Volunteer Handbook
All volunteers must complete the Beaverton School District’s Raptor volunteer application and background check, and receive approval before participating in any volunteer activities. The application can be accessed via the link under our Volunteer tab. For questions about the Raptor process, please email Volunteer@Beaverton.k12.or.us. Approval typically takes about two weeks. Once approved, you will receive an email confirmation.
One-time volunteer sign ups, such as helping at events, are shared via ParentSquare and are usually linked in our PTO newsletters when an opportunity is coming up. If you would like to volunteer in the school, please contact your student’s teacher directly about opportunities to volunteer in the classroom. To join a committee, please visit our committees page under the volunteer tab and contact the committee chair listed. If a committee does not currently have a chair, or if you are interested in co-chairing, use the Contact Us button in the top right corner of the website to reach the PTO directly. Interested in joining the PTO Executive Officers? Fill out the form on the Officers page under the about tab.
Want to volunteer, but not sure what the right fit is? Fill out our Volunteer Coordinator contact form below, and we will help you find opportunities that fit your schedule and interests. If you have questions about volunteering, or believe your background check approval is delayed, email the Montclair PTO Volunteer Coordinators at VC@MontclairPTO.org or call the front office.

Important Details
Sign in & Sign out
Volunteers are required to sign in and out on the computer in the school office by checking in with the office staff. Your presence on the school grounds is recorded as a safety measure in the instance of an emergency situation or natural disaster. The District also tracks volunteer trends through the data on this computer.
ID Badges
When you sign in, a RAPTOR volunteer badge will be printed for you to wear. Volunteers must wear their name badges in a visible location when volunteering during school hours.
Confidentiatlity
When volunteering at the school, you may overhear sensitive information about students and families. Please keep this information confidential by not discussing the information inside or outside of the school (chatting in line at the grocery store, bus stop, sports field, etc.)
sight & Sound
Beaverton School District policy: “All volunteers shall operate under the direction of a licensed staff member & shall be within sight and sound of a licensed staff member while working with students.” This policy ensures the safety of children and protects volunteers from liability.
Dependability & Punctuality
Our teachers depend on us! If you are scheduled to volunteer in a classroom but you are unable to come in or need to come in at a different time, please contact your teacher(s) by email, or call the office as soon as you know of your change in plans. If you have agreed to help with an event but your plans have changed, please let the event coordinator know asap so that they can find another volunteer.

Volunteers must use adult-only bathrooms, which are located behind the office, behind the library circulation desk, and in the Garden House.
Volunteers are expected to follow the instructions given to staff and students during emergency drills.
Please help to keep the workroom tidy by cleaning up after yourself.
District policy does not allow preschool age children to attend volunteer sessions with volunteers.
FAQs
-
It takes three simple steps to become a volunteer!
Step 1: Review the Volunteer Training Information
For the safety of our students, all volunteer applicants are required to review the mandatory volunteer training information before completing the volunteer application.
Step 2: Volunteer Application & Criminal Records Check
Again, to safeguard the safety and well-being our students and staff, each prospective volunteer must complete an application through our districtwide volunteer management system called Raptor and then submit to an Oregon criminal records check. You'll receive a confirmation email as soon as the application has been approved.
Step 3: Volunteer
▶ Parent Volunteer
Look for activity sign-up & volunteer information in ParentSquare.
▶ Community Volunteer
Please visit our Join Community Groups webpage to sign up to receive information about volunteer opportunities. -
You'll need to resubmit your application every two years. At that time, another criminal records check will be conducted. You'll receive an email reminder about 30 days in advance.
-
There is one common application for all volunteers. This application includes a question for applicants to indicate if they are 17 or younger. Volunteers 18 or older should indicate that they are community members. A juvenile offender check will be run for applicants under 18, and an adult check for those 18 and older.
Only students in grade 6 or above can volunteer at Montclair events. For Montclair students interested in volunteering, contact studentgreenteam@montclairpto.org -
BSD must run its own criminal records check.
